Drought

an empty pocket marks the field—

the dugout gone dry

another year without the graces:

pumpkins, potatoes, carrots

forgotten that first fall frost,

a Farmer’s blessing

the price of hay and such too dear

to supply

the waiting full of half-moon hopes

in old dugouts
