bridging the gap*


Clear across unresolved

distance between us

the voice of a bird comes—

in the morning,

breezing easily over traffic,

right on time—

 

keeping its promise to bridge the gap

between open sky and

those in the valley below,

wavering between heights,

forgetting the glory

that awaits those faithful

to small appointments.
